Solar is not the same as clean power
A home can have solar, batteries and an inverter and still expose AV and control equipment to changeovers, voltage events or unstable supply conditions.
- Online double conversion UPS systems regenerate the output rather than simply cutting over.
- Networking, HDMI distribution, automation processors and CCTV recording benefit from stable power.
- The rack should be treated as critical infrastructure, not a normal plug load.
Protect the systems clients notice first
When power quality is poor, the failures clients notice are often Wi-Fi, HDMI, streaming, control processors, cameras and source devices. These are the systems that make a premium home feel broken.
- HDMI and AV distribution can be sensitive to voltage events and restarts.
- Network equipment should recover predictably after outages.
- Control systems should be designed for graceful restart and remote support.
Document the recovery path
Power protection is not only hardware. The support team needs to know what is on protected power, what can be restarted remotely and what sequence should be followed after a fault.
- Label protected circuits and rack power paths.
- Keep critical network and control equipment on the correct UPS layer.
- Include recovery notes in the support documentation.
